According to the recommendations of WOAH and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), homologous vaccines based on the Neethling strain provide more effective prevention of LSD compared to vaccines based on sheeppox virus strains.

These vaccines have been in use for over 60 years, and to date, there have been no reports of vaccine virus regaining virulence in vaccinated herds.

Mass vaccination of cattle against LSD with live vaccines based on the Neethling strain is considered the most effective control measure in the EU and most countries in Asia and Africa, including from an economic standpoint.

One dose of BOVIMUN LSD vaccine (1 ml) contains Lumpy Skin Disease virus, Neethling strain > 103.8 TCID50. This vaccine has higher antigen activity than the main competing vaccines that have a single immunizing dose (2 ml) containing > 103.5 TCID50.

Since its launch in 2020, BOVIMUN LSD has been used in livestock production in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, where the vaccine has been shown to be highly effective in preventing Lumpy Skin Disease.

Active immunity from 21 days

BOVIMUN LSD stimulates the formation of immunity 10 days after a single vaccination. Active immunity occurs on the 21st day after immunization. Duration of immunity up to 2 years.

Safe for use in pregnant cattle

Safe for pregnant cows

BOVIMUN LSD is formulated to ensure the safety of pregnant cows. This means farmers can administer the vaccine at any time of year. Milk from vaccinated cows is used without restrictions. Calves from vaccinated cows are vaccinated at the age of 4-6 months; calves from unvaccinated cows are vaccinated at any age.

BOVIMUN LSD. When, why and how

BOVIMUN LSD is a lyophilized preparation of chemically altered LSDV-Neethling strain, plus a solvent. The liquid solvent is used to rehydrate the lyophilized component

  • The vaccine is administered subcutaneously to animals at a dose of 1.0 ml, regardless of age.
  • Vaccinate healthy animals only.
  • Calves from vaccinated cows are vaccinated at the age of 4-6 months.
  • Calves from unvaccinated cows are vaccinated at any age.
  • Revaccination is carried out annually.
  • In very rare cases, swelling may occur at the injection site. These lumps usually disappear without treatment.
  • Meat from vaccinated animals is not allowed for human consumption for 7 days. Milk from vaccinated cows is used without restrictions.
  • The shelf life of BOVIMUN LSD is 24 months.
  • Store vaccine components in a dark place at a temperature of 2°C to 8 °C. It is allowed to store the lyophilisate frozen at a temperature of minus 20 °C.
  • Available in 5 doses, 10 doses, 25 doses, 50 doses, 100 doses.
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and sterile during vaccination. Before use, sterilize all equipment by boiling it in water for at least 15 minutes.
  • Keep the vaccine in a cool place and avoid exposure to direct sunlight and high temperatures during vaccination.
  • Just before use, draw up 5.0 ml of the solvent from the appropriate vial with a sterile syringe and transfer it to the vial with the lyophilized vaccine.
  • Mix thoroughly until the lyophilisate is completely dissolved, then transfer the solution with a syringe into the vial with a solvent.
  • Repeat the operation to complete the transfer of lyophilized vaccine.
  • Use the vaccine immediately after reconstitution.
